The goals against goal-a-thon that BNU’s 2007 season is rapidly becoming continued on its Wellington tour with a visit to Tawa FC’s Redwood Park. Another reasonable day greeted a hard core group of BNU supporters out-numbered by a voracious home crowd.
A few more changes to this week’s BNU side saw Paul O’Call return from his summer multi-sport hiatus to take on his old club. There was also a change at the back with team management going for a little more experienced custodian, Cam Johns.
This week’s movie is the ‘Matrix’. More specifically it is during the
middle part of the movie where Neo experiences déjà vu when seeing a
black cat twice. According to Trinity, déjà vu is “usually a glitch in
the matrix which occurs when the machines change something inside the
matrix”. The machines were having a field day in the Redwood Park
version of this sci-fi classic as BNU conspired to gift the home team
three goals in identical fashion in the space of five minutes either
side of half-time. Tawa scored three times from corners as
dis-organisation within the BNU defence gifted the red and yellows the
game on a plate.
Up until the Matrix inspired corner turkey shoot BNU had been playing
some of their best football of the season to date. Brooklyn had gone
one down after about 20 minutes, largely against the run of play, after
missing two very good opportunities to open the scoring. This set-back
seemed to motivate BNU anew though and resulted in the away team
putting together one of the better passages of play in the match. This
move resulted in a top draw finish from Singles from 18 yards.
However, many BNU players seemed to relax after this and Tawa were
quick to regain the lead shortly after. The game then settled down a
little as players began to feel the hectic pace of the match so far and
waited for the half time break to regroup. The first of the corner
trilogy was scored right on the half time whistle and the BNU feeling
at the turn around was that of being a little hard done by.
These feelings were quick to fade though as corner sequels two and
three were quickly dispatched and the match petered out to its crushing
conclusion with the addition of a nicely finished sixth goal for the
home side.
14 goals conceded, only one for after 270 minutes of football. Surely
things cannot get any worse as we look forward to next weeks match at
home against Kapiti Coast United.
