3-1 Victory for BNU Womens B Vs Wainuiomata

The Sunday match looked to be another wintery experience but the trip over the hill showed the gods were smiling over Wainuiomata as the clouds cleared just in time for kick off.  BNU was due a win and were quietly confident over a new Wainuiomata side still finding their feet.

The first half started off with a hiss and a roar with BNU dominating and after what seemed like a million shots at goal, Jules was finally able to stifle the goalie who couldn't contain her tremendously powerful kick which gave Jacqui the opportunity to pounce on the dropped ball and slip in the back of the net to get the first points on the scoreboard.  This was followed in quick succession by Aphra who managed to get the ball in the goal after plenty of running.  By this stage the sun had come out and there were a few shirts coming off to discard the unneeded polyprops on the sidelines. And then before we knew it (well some of us did after a few weeks off) it was half time.  All in all the first half was a success with great team work and accurate passing with our back delivering some great high balls to the midfielders.  The score could of been a lot more if it wasn't for some good goal keeping by Wainiuomata and some unlucky near misses, alas half time score was a satisfying 2-0.

The second half started slowly as it took BNU a few (or 10) minutes to find their mojo after the break.  This allowed an anxious Wainiuomata side to gain some possession and they made the most of this scoring within the first five minutes.  This gave BNU the wake up call they needed and we started to gain back the domination we had shown in the first half.  Wainiu did get a few good runs at goal during the second half but Toni played her cards right - coming out for the ball and stopping the shots that came her way.  The second half also bought out the mongrel in Wainui with a particular player feeling the need to slide tackle (even on attack and from behind...) and took out three BNU players, Jacqui had to be escorted off the field after pulling both calves after her run in with Little Miss slide tackle.  Unfortunately the slide tackles were not enough to stop BNU and Jules managed to score with a great shot from the right side just inside the box across the goal and into the top left corner which earned her player of the day - nice one Jules.  All in all the second half showed a lot of promise with some great plays and more shots at goal ending with near misses but BNU walked away with the result they wanted.  Great work team!!

Top match report Bex - couldn't have worded it better myself... ;-)

And good luck for this Sunday team! I've already won a few $$$ (or was it cents???) on the slot machines so clearly the luck is with us (not that you'll need it!).

Jules x
