Uni Scarfies 5-0 BNU Thirds - 16/5/09 Humiliating thrashing instead of a student bashing This season we’ve had more reshuffling at the back than Blanket man with a bout of piles – and for the third game on the bounce we had a new keeper between the sticks. This time Phil donning the gloves in the first half and Robert having a crack in the second half. Not that we’re using that as an excuse for losing 5-0..oh no I’m lining up the tried and tested sh*t referee rant for that. Well, to be fair, if the penalty that was gifted to Uni after 10 minutes (only the ref saw a foul, certainly nobody appealed for anything) hadn’t been given, and the penalty not given (to us) for the blatant handball had been given, we still would have lost. Even taking into account their offside 4th goal and the 25-2 free-kick count I’m sure we would still have been facing a defeat, but at least we might have made a game of it….especially if we hadn’t had that goal ruled out for a dubious offside…etc..etc. Instead we were reduced to taking long range pot shots in ridiculously windy conditions (great tactic) and despite having a couple of efforts cleared off the line we were kept scoreless for only the second time this season. No doubt the tax dodgers grateful for a rare clean sheet (!) but also credit where it’s due and they certainly gave us a lesson in finishing. It’s too painful to relive each goal one by one, plus five is actually too many to remember, so I won’t go into details. Petone are next up, a team we’ve actually beaten this season, so there’s cause to hope there. Nigel Moore

"Would never had happened in my day!!!... We'd have thumped them lot of student nancy's, then gone back - drank 20 pints of bitter and had chips and gravy for tea"
