BNU Thirds v Lower Hutt 25/4/09
Match Reports - Third Team

No Fun at Fraser 1 - Lower Hutt 5 - 1 BNU Thirds

It’s hard to believe that for 5 glorious minutes we were actually leading this game. An excellent run and flick on from Robbie at a throw-in put the ball right in the danger area, where Brent (getting his fourth goal from 4 games) finished well on his trusted left foot.

And that’s where it all fell apart.

It didn’t take an excellent Lower Hutt team long to find an equaliser, a header going unchallenged from a corner finding the net. Moments later they took the lead from an harshly awarded free-kick, a 20-yarder just evading both the wall and the keeper’s grasp.

After the third went in, a scrappy goal resulting from a melee in the penalty box, the game was over as a contest. The second half saw the fourth goal allowed despite a blatant off-side (the linesman a lower Hutt sub, was heard to check with the Ref whether he should flag for off-sides – not sure what the answer was but somehow the goal stood), and the fifth was thankfully the end of the scoring.

A bad day all round, however the good news was that our next opponents, Marist, suffered a heavier defeat against top of the table Petone Armani’s (6-1) – so it’s all on for next week.
