BNU Seconds 0 - Kapiti Coast United 3It was a lovely day for football. The Kapiti Coast had put on a nice day, Weka park was in good nick and the Second team looked strong. However, we got off to a pretty slow start and Kapiti were putting on the pressure by playing simple through-ball football. And their strategy worked. We got caught out by not clearing the ball well enough and Kapiti put one past us after about 10 minutes. That was a bit of a wake up call and BNU responded by playing good controlled football. We were playing solid ball-to-feet football, passing it well and controlling the game for a good 30 minutes of the first half. Young Walt Boyd looked good playing on the left wing and really created problems for the Kapiti defence while big Josh Stuart, back after 6 weeks away, piled on the pressure in the Kapiti box. But to no avail. Kapiti kept their cool and we went in 1-0 down at the half. In the second half the game opened up. Perhaps a lack of fitness from both teams or perhaps the enormous size of Weka park contributed. Kapiti continued to play the same game, the through ball which created problems. Dave Tompkins came off early in the second half with a groin injury that may leave him out for a couple of weeks. Matt Allen, newcomer Wendell Cook and Jimmy Cooper came on during the half and all contributed well but Kapiti put another two past us and sealed the game. There were a few moments towards the end of the game where BNU again looked likely but by then the game had slipped away. Matt Dillon Add your comment |
