| BNU Pretenders v University Te Whaea 26 June 2011 |
|
After several weeks of cancellations we were pleased to finally get a game, even though it was at 7.30pm on a cold and drizzly Sunday night. Perhaps because of the latter, it was decided we would only play 30 minute halves. University seemed like a young team with a mixture of experience. We had the benefit of a very attacking team with Jess returning after a spell, Amy and Wendy up front and Cat and Liz doing good work in the middle. Although we didn't know it at the time, it was also to be Jo's last game. In the end, it was our attacking mid-field that put us up 2-0 at half-time (I think - it's all a bit hazy...). After the keeper came out to block a run from Amy the ball came loose - we all looked around to see who was there to capitalise and in came Liz with a dinky touch straight into goal. The second goal was longer range and came courtesy of Cat. The attacking continued in the second half which meant the defence didn't have a whole lot to do for a while but then one of their good players managed to get a break and a powerful shot in. I think we had a few more shots on goal in the second half and they put us under a bit more pressure but neither team managed to increase the score. Full-time score was 2-1 to us. Hoorah! Apologies if I've got any of the details wrong. Naomi Wallwork |
