Well, it was a game of one half.  Us in Petone’s half on the verge of scoring for the whole game!  This was great in one respect because we had plenty of opportunities but bad in another respect, as there were so many players in the goal box at times it was like playing pinball.

It was hard to tell who got our first goal.  We think Naomi kicked it last – then it rolled slowly along the ground and between the keeper’s legs.  Perhaps the keeper was having a nap or hadn’t realised we had started.  The keeper was actually very good, so not sure what happened with that first goal.  Our second goal was much better, with Wendy calmly slotting it in the net.  Next goal was Jess’s, a cracker from the edge of the box.  A little fist of triumph shot up from Jess to mark her first of the season.  Amongst the goals, Meg and Jenny H did some great work down the wings.  Celia also had a cracker first game.

Then came half time.  Jules (our golden boot 2010) showed up for a bit of a run.  Ten minutes later she had scored a hat trick, pulling some smooth moves and great shots.  By that stage we were six nil up and the forwards and backs swapped positions.  Jacqui scored a great goal from far out.  And then came Anita’s turn.  Anita was super keen to get ‘at least one goal in her life’.  Sadly not this time, she came very close but a nasty stomp on her foot ruined it all.

We all had a great game and got some good goals in the bank to improve our stats.
