BNU Pretenders v Petone Pumas 22nd August 2010
Match Reports

A SPECTACULAR PERFORMANCE…

8-0

Here we go again…. the turf was calling us and so was a big win!

We started off with a hiss and a roar and it was only a matter of time before we scored – those chances just kept on coming.  Our first breakthrough came towards the middle of the first half when Meg’s runs down the right wing paid off and she sneaked a precision-perfect pass to Jules who slotted the ball past the keeper. 1-0.  Then it wasn’t long before Jules got on the end of another cross from Meg, taking us to the more comfortable cushion of 2-0.  Yippee!

It would appear we couldn’t do a thing wrong – and then a long ball across the Petone box tempted the goalkeeper away from her goal – she had the ball in her sights but it was leaving the box and heading towards the corner flag…. Jules was chasing it too….. the goalie realised it was now beyond her reach, and made a desperate dash back to her line but it was just too late – Jules stopped the ball, turned and fired the ball towards the goal (and a rapidly retreating keeper). The ball bounced cleanly into the bottom right corner – 3-0 and a hattrick – yippee!  Jules even managed to sneak in another before half time – nice.

We have to take some time to reminisce on the unluckiest moment of the game.  Anna made the most of her big boot with a spectacular shot from the half-way line (pretty much…!).  It was a corker… high and powerful… Will it?  Won’t it…? Nope – just over the crossbar… urgh.

We mixed it up in the second half – shuffling the team around and it just made the success even sweeter - Wendy, Meg and Liz both made it onto the scoreboard… congrats to Meg and Liz for their first goals for BNU, and it would appear that Wendy is now establishing herself as a solid striking option for the coach… :-)

With a seven goal lead, we were away laughing but Jules hadn’t scored in the second half yet – and she remedied that with a long high shot from outside the box.  Just sneaked it in under the cross bar – phew….

That previously silver boot looks like it might have a bit of a golden shimmer to it now as Jules has drawn level with the top scorer of the season… it’s now within grasp barring cancellations and fingers crossed for a (phew) more goals…????
